The Edgar Joyce Memorial Fund
Edgar Joyce was born in Bristol in 1911 and was a founder member of the B&DOA, becoming its President in 1992. He was also a keen supporter of choirs and church music. The Memorial Fund was set up by his family in conjunction with the B&DOA to help young organists further their careers. The Annual Edgar Joyce Recital is a showcase for young organists who have benefitted from the fund during the current year.

The City Council took on responsibility for the event but ceased funding it in the 1990s, whereupon the event changed its name to the Bristol Festival of Music, Speech and Drama
