Hector C. Parr was born in 1927, educated at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Darlington, and studied maths at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. He went on to teach Mathematics and Computing, but a generation after he had left Darlington he returned to the Grammar School as Head of Music.  He was a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists, and an audio engineer in his spare time. He died in August 2018.
