Director of Music required
Come and join the team as
ORGANIST AND DIRECTOR OF MUSIC
at St John’s Church, Chipping Sodbury.
Owing to the move abroad of our current Organist and Director of Music, we are looking for a successor with a heart for deepening worship through music.
We require someone skilled in choral training and direction with understanding of the Anglican choral tradition as well as a keenness to enhance liturgy through a wide variety of contemporary music.
We have a small choir (RSCM affiliated) who rehearse weekly and we require a commitment to build on this and to develop singing with young people, potentially through established contacts with the local church primary school. There is a good Benefice choir as well that sings for weddings and Christmas. There is scope for further development with that choir.
We also have a small instrumental group of professional, semi-professional and talented amateur wind, string, keyboard and percussion players who play regularly for services, and the successful candidate would be able to work with and develop that group.
The church has a well-maintained 2 manual pipe organ, tracker action with 24 stops.
Sunday morning services comprise Sung Holy Communion (Common Worship) twice a month; all-age Communion once a month; non-eucharistic Family Service once a month.
A commitment to participate in major Festivals would also be expected.
RSCM terms plus wedding and funeral fees.
